A stranger to golf?

Are you a stranger to golf, meaning you really have no clue about the sport? Have you ever looked over the landscape from the first tee box and wondered what the golf world is all about? If your response is yes, then please read on to become a little more enlightened.

Golf has so many strange words associated with it and the best way to make sense of the jargon is by using the Internet as your resource and searching golfing terms.

When beginning a game of golf, there is something called teeing or tee box, this term is simple to understand, this is the only place a tee can be used. The tee is the large toothpick like object, which is pushed into the ground to create an elevated platform on which you place your ball. The elevation will allow you to hit the ball easier and strike with strength and accuracy. The tee box will have a number of different ones to choose from, we recommend as a beginner you start with the one closest to the hole. Once you have an improved golf skill try the more challenging boxes.

After the tee box you will encounter the fairway, this is a piece of trimmed grass that lies between you and hole location in the green. The length and the bend will vary depending on the type of club, this will become clearer as you get more with the sport. If there is a bend in the fairway in front of you, it is referred to as a dog leg and they can either be found dog leg left or dog leg right depending on the direction of the fairway head.

After clearing the fairway, you will meet the green. The green comprises of very short grass allowing faster rolling. The club to be typically used here is the putter; this provides you with a refined tool that is specifically designed to manage the fast and surging green.  Be aware that the green may contain subtle slopes and dips. The change in the slope is referred to as the break. A good way to maintain a successful swing on the green is to analyse it. Crouch down and try to observe the break by reading the green it could lead to a better score.

Golf can be an intimidating sport to a golfing stranger so ensure you read articles on the Internet to gain a better knowledge. There are many books available showing you the ins and outs of the sport and playing and learning with friends also determines a better understanding. Good Luck!
