Saving Money on Short Breaks to Rome

If you thought weekend breaks to Rome cost a fortune, think again! The good news is that many of the top sights are in public spaces, while many wonderful churches don’t charge to enter, although you may want to put a few coins in a slot to light up some of the works of art.

St Peter’s Square, for example, is free to wonder around, while the Pantheon – one of the most complete Roman buildings to be found anywhere, and an architectural marvel – is free.

Given that most of the main tourist attractions are in the Rome’s compact, historic centre, you can walk around most places really easily during weekend breaks to Rome. However, if you do get hot or tired, public transport is plentiful and inexpensive – you can travel for more than an hour for under £1, for example.

When it comes to food and drink, avoid the fancier squares with their inflated coffee prices. And of course there are lavish restaurants, but it’s still perfectly possible to have a fine meal at a great trattoria for under £25 a head.

At Golf Weekend Breaks, we have fantastic deals on city breaks to Rome, staying in comfortable three and four star hotels. Buy our weekend breaks to Rome as packages with flight and hotel, or just buy your hotel room through us.

See our website and see how we can help you enjoy the Eternal City in style – without breaking the bank.

Food and Drink on City Breaks to Rome

Food and drink are vital parts of any holiday, and weekend breaks to Rome are no exception. Eating and drinking in the Italian capital are exquisite experiences. With any major European city, there are expensive restaurants, but eating out on short breaks to Rome doesn’t have to mean forking out a fortune.

You’ll want a coffee stop after sightseeing, but try and go for local cafes rather than the pricy tourist coffee shops which line the more popular squares. Another tip for city breaks in Rome is that many places charge less if you drink your coffee at the bar rather than a table.

If you stick to pizza and pasta, you can eat cheaply and well, paying under a fiver for a great thin-crust margherita. Or there are places offering cannelloni, a tomato salad and a quarter litre of house wine for less than a tenner. Even a good three-course meal with wine can set you back less than £25.

And, of course, the Italian language gave us the phrase ‘al fresco’ – so why not enjoy your meals and drinks outside as you soak up the amazing architecture?

At Golf Weekend Breaks, we’ve some of the best city breaks to Rome you’re likely to find anywhere online, whether you want flight and hotel or just accommodation. (Though booking both through us saves you money.) See our website for more details. You could be enjoying the Eternal City within days.

Looking for Weekend Breaks in Berlin?

Germany’s capital has drawn travellers for hundreds of years. It may have once symbolised a divided Europe, but now Berlin is an emblem of a reunited nation, and city breaks to Berlin are hugely popular.

You can get a glimpse of what this city may have been like 300 years ago by strolling around the The Schloss Charlottenburg palace, and its extensive gardens. If you are looking for something with a more modern feel, go to funky areas such as Prenzlauer Berg or the Potsdamer Platz, where westerners used to look over the wall to the east. Twenty years after the wall fell, this vibrant centre is now full of shops, restaurants and entertainment.

You can see all these sites on more on any short breaks to Berlin. And if you make city breaks to Berlin during the week, you can save money on air fares into the bargain. But for city breaks in Berlin over a weekend, pick up a metro pass for unlimited travel across the German capital.

At Golf Weekend Breaks, we can offer you city breaks to Berlin staying in a variety of three or four-star hotels. Save money and get us to take care of your flight at the same time. We bring together the best tailor-made weekend breaks at the best prices, and offer discounted fares on over 450 airlines. And we’re ATOL-protected to give you extra peace of mind. See our website for more information.

City Breaks in Rome for Families

While weekend breaks to Rome with a partner are undeniably romantic, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t also enjoy short breaks to Rome with the whole family.

The Italian capital is extremely child-friendly, with warm welcomes extended to youngsters in hotels and restaurants. Italians are naturally quite vibrant people, so you won’t have to worry about how much noise your little ones make.

You may find fewer nappy changing stations than in the UK, and certainly not all the museums and historic sights have videos or interactive displays aimed at kids. But these things are easy to work round, and there’s so much in Rome the whole family will love.

Gianicolo hill, for example, behind Trastevere, has fantastic views, and there are puppet shows here at weekends. Or check out San Clemente church near the Colosseum, or Castel Sant’Angelo. At the Macchine di Leonardo museum, there is an interactive exhibition, with models of some of da Vinci’s greatest designs. This is in the cellars of the Palazzo della Cancelleria – nice and cool on a hot day, as are the various Roman catacombs.

If you’re looking into short breaks to Rome, make us at Golf Weekend Breaks your first port of call. We’ll be delighted to help give your family a truly memorable holiday – we’re ATOL-protected, giving you extra peace of mind.

Book your hotel with or without flights. We stay in well-located, comfortable three and four star accommodation. Our website has lots more information about our city breaks to Rome and elsewhere.

Why You’ll Love Summery Short Breaks in Paris

Parisians flee their city in the summer, making it the perfect time to enjoy the parks, galleries and music festivals on city breaks to Paris – without the crowds. There’s so much to do here when the temperature soars, and weekend breaks in Paris can be whatever you want them to be.

If you thought summer weekend breaks in Paris meant no beach, think again! Whole stretches of the River Seine are transformed into oases of sun and sand, as they become the well-known ‘Paris Plages’ from July until the middle of August.

If a gentle stroll is more your thing, the two-and-a-half mile Promenade Plantée runs from the Bastille to the Bois de Vincennes, which has a zoo, floral park and boating lake. You could have a wonderfully lazy picnic lunch here.

If you want to relax somewhere quiet, perhaps with a bottle of wine, head for the Arenes de Lutèces, the remains of a Greco-Roman amphitheatre, and the French capital’s oldest archaeological site in the Latin Quarter.

At Golf Weekend Breaks, we have a great range of weekend breaks to Paris, staying in one of our centrally located, comfortable three or four star hotels. Of course, the great thing about escaping to Paris is that you don’t have to fly there if you don’t want to. But we can arrange your flights for you if you do, to give you a great value weekend package.

See our website for more information.

When on Weekend Breaks in Rome…

If you’re planning short breaks to Rome, it’s a good idea to plan ahead how you will spend your few days in the Eternal City.

Even on short breaks to Rome, two places you won’t want to miss are the Forum and the Colosseum. In a city full of treasures, these two places stand out. If you can visit on a Sunday, Via dei Fori Imperiali, the raised road which passes by, and overlooks, the ruins of the Imperial Fora and Roman Forum, is shut to traffic.

If you don’t want to pay to go into the Forum, another option is to get an overview of it from the steps on the eastern side of the Piazza del Campidoglio, and of the Imperial Fora from the lower terrace of the Vittoriano monument. If you decide you are happy to pay, get the combined ticket for the Roman Forum, the Palatine and Colosseum, which is better value.

If you’re thinking about city breaks to Rome you’ll want to visit the Vatican and St Peter’s Square as well. Wherever you go, you’ll have your breath taken away by the sheer beauty of this astonishing city.

At Golf Weekend Breaks, we specialise in trips like short breaks to Rome. Book flight and hotel or just accommodation through us – in Rome we use three and four star hotels in fantastic locations. We offer great value, flexible breaks and we’re ATOL protected. See our website for more details.

Save Money on Short Breaks to Paris

The French capital has some of the world’s greatest museums and galleries. If you’d like to spend less during city breaks in Paris, consider going for the Paris museum and monument pass, which will get you in to dozens of the city’s most famous places.

The full list is printed on your pass, but it includes the Louvre, Chateau de Versailles and gardens, the Musee d Orsay, the Arc de Triomphe, Notre Dame tower and crypt, and Victor Hugo’s house.

The pass gets you into permanent rather than special exhibitions, and usually allows you to go to the front of most entrance queues. It is validated once you make your first museum visit, and is also available as a two-day pass.

As a further way of saving some Euros, most attractions are free on the first Sunday of each month, and to under 18s with the right ID.

It’s amazing how much you can pack in to a weekend break to Paris, but careful planning is a good idea, since you can easily spend a whole day in the Louvre alone.

At Golf Weekend Breaks, we have some fantastic deals on short breaks in Paris all summer long. Stay in one of our handpicked three and four star hotels and let us arrange your flight as well, or just book your accommodation through us if you prefer.

Our short breaks to Paris are excellent value, and we’re ATOL-protected. See our website for more details.
